It's Summer Time... Again

Once again it's summer time and for the locals in the area you know what that means.  It's gets really hot.  Therefore, keep in mind that triple degree weather is very possible for race time.  Please put sunscreen on and drink LOTS of water.

Summertime also means the snakes are out.  It is unlikely that you will run across one of these guys during midday but I have ran across a few during some night runs around the mountain.  Therefore, please remember your head lamps and keep a close eye out for those guys.  They tend to bite first and rattle later.

If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact us.

Thanks,

I've been getting a couple of emails about how to register for the different categories.  Check in for the race will start at 6:30 in the morning.  At check in please let us know if you would like to be in one of the crazy categories we have available.  Everyone must check in before they start the race.  Also, please be at the pre-race meeting before the start.  If you have any questions please feel free to contact me or Robert Atteberry.

Thanks,

Race Start

Race Date

Race will begin on June 1, 2013 at 8 a.m. sharp.  Prerace meeting at 7:30 a.m.

Race Information

Race Info

How many times can you circle A Mountain? Starting at 0800 in the morning you will depart from the Northeast parking lot and proceed to do as many laps around A Mountain as possible. This is not an official event sponsored by anyone.

Registration

There will be no registration fee.  We will be providing some basic supplies, so we are asking for a $10 donation to help go towards these supplies.  Registration for this may also be found on UltraSignup.com.

Pre-Race

We will have a pre-race meeting at 0730 to go over a couple things before the race.  Check in will be any time before 0800 but we will let people start at anytime during the 24hrs, though you will have a much better chance of winning if you start on time.

Race HQ

The course starts and ends at the NE parking lot.  It is a big parking lot, with some shaded areas, and plenty of area if you choose to set up camp.  The sign in table will be located at the start/finish location.  You will need to check in at Race HQ table after every lap and before the start of a new lap.

Supplies

We will have some supplies at the course HQ such as pretzels, candy, pie, water and other race goodies for people.  Anything else you want you will have to provide for yourself.  We will have some water set up at about the halfway point.  We will have some basic first aid supplies but no trained professionals.

Gear

It will be in middle of the summer so expect it to be hot and lots of sun.  Therefore, remember to bring sunscreen, light clothing, and plenty of shading.  If you plan on resting remember to bring gear.  There will be plenty of room around the area so you can set up your gear.  Though there shouldn’t be any rain during that time of the year remember to prepare for anything.  Temperatures do tend to drop at night so prepare for a little chilly weather.  Headlamp or flashlight will be required between the hours of 7pm and 7am.  If your feet are prone to blistering remember to bring foot care.  We will not be providing any.

Awards

We will have awards for:
-Most Laps (Males)
-Most Laps (Females)
-Over 100 miles
-Over 50 miles
-Heavy:  Must carry 45lbs for the entire lap, most laps.  Weight-vest not allowed.
-Barefoot Runner:  Most laps barefoot, fivefingers, or sandals.
-Beer Miles  You have to drink a beer prior to starting every lap you do, most laps.  We are not promoting the consumption of alcohol.  You must provide your own beer.
-Trash Collector:  Most trash picked up for the entire race.
-NEW RELAY TEAM: Max. of 4 people.  Most laps.

The Course

The course will circumnavigate A Mountain and is approximately 4 miles long (more precise distance will be provided once the course is marked).  It will be marked with with flags and chalk.  There will be trash cans at the course HQ but none on the course therefore absolutely NO LITTERING on the course.  We will have an unmanned water station approximately halfway on the course.
During the race we will have six rotations of the course.  The race will start with all runners going clockwise around the mountain.  After 4hrs the racers, after the completion of their current lap, will switch to running the course counterclockwise.  After another 4hrs the racers will switch to clockwise upon completion of their current lap.  We will be advising runners when to switch and will keep everyone updated when the switch is approaching.

Additional Notes:
There are no bathroom facilities so you are going to have to get a little creative. Further updates will be provided.
